The concerns of post parliamentary election

Recently, I’ve been reading lots, really lots of political news in online feeder like detik.com, and such. Often, I get so dazzled, surprised, shock even sometimes disgusted by the move of the so called people’s representative in the parliament or numerous political parties inhabiting the countries and elections. The broad range of issues start may be the most recent, the case of Antasari, the deal or no deal of coalition, even the issue of president and the vice president candidates. It makes me sometimes wonder, what the heck they’re doing, don’t they know they are being watched by the public. Why they don’t start being really careful before spitting any public statement and making embezzling political moves.
I went “oh Gosh!” when I read the news that some certain fraction members in the parliament were trying to disarm the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) in the illogical reason that they’re not valid to operate without any incumbent chief since the current chief at the time, Antasari, was being a suspect of murder case. They have four co-chiefs there, then why don’t let them do their job. Oh, are they thinking this is a good chance to finally be freed from worries of their corruptive practices along this while.

I was even surprised reading the current vice president criticizing the current government. Is that because of his job as his party’s representative– Golkar- during the election? Think again, you’re the vice president, you’re after all criticizing your own performance. Even now, I think he may be too busy taking care of his odds with Wiranto and perhaps having bigger coalition with other party rather than filling his position to govern. You still have your job and you’re paid for it, Mr. Kalla no matter how rich you are! Even you offered yourself to be elected!

It was even more shocking to have a look at the mesmerizing moves of the red party – PDIP (Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle). They were busy criticizing the current government about its policy of direct cash assistance, but finally put it up in their own campaign. Not finished there yet, they’re so busy of doing the power sharing, have completed signing to form a big coalition with other major’s party like Golkar and Hanura while they suddenly left them in the process after being approached by the election winning party – Democrat party -. Where’s the ethics of the politics?

Those were only some cases. There are actually more. I may be completely dull of politics, or I may just making fuss of actually common moves in politics. But again, I, as many other Indonesians, voted candidates of party because we believed at least partially of their ideals. They turned out to have coalition with parties we didn’t vote because those parties had points we didn’t agree on and even worse they ceded themselves to the other party’s ideal as the political deal.

We voted so thus our representatives would act in the name of the people of elected them. It’s impossible to expect them doing 100% within our expectation but at least they can think twice before making any moves or statements that can stir public’s concern. I still strongly believe, even a decade of free democracy in Indonesia, we’re still bound to the old end-result: many people who have voted would just be utterly disappointed. But again, I still believe it’s better to vote rather than being a non-voters (golput). Let’s hope the chaotic parliament election will turn out to be better during the presidential election in the following month. I may not be able to vote this time though, since I will have to go back to my hometown again. The election just should really go online any time soon so you can do that from anywhere.

You can always find stupid people anywhere. More of them in politics. However, you should be glad that we have this dynamics, and that you can freely express your thoughts now in Indonesia. When you return to Singapore, you live the life of a stifled up slave, devoid of any right to be critical to the government.
